Havent been writing for a while. Busy busy busy! Renovated and kinda moved into a far far away land. Also, when I dont write much it probably means the kids are driving me up the walls and I tend to write whatever happened in such exaggerated forms that i myself would proclaim, "What? My kids did that? No way!" in future. So, best to leave things chill a bit before I tarnish their goody two shoes images in the whole spectrum of my motherly thoughts (and yours).
Lolly just turned 1. Zoweee! A simple lollypop themed party was held, though most of the guests had no clue the theme is related to the nick i bestowed onto her. She was mighty pleased when the birthday song was sung. I had half expected and fear a loud bawl. I dont know *shurg* i reckon this girl is still unpredictable. But one thing for sure, she has an attitude the size of the African map (yes, future self, your daughter is perceived by many to be somewhat a gangsta chic). Just today, she refused to wear a dress. How? She simple turned her head awaaaayyyyyyy from the gaping hole of the opening of the pretty dress and shrieked her disapproval. Ok, daughter, you are gonna wear dress, dress, dress..nothing but dress from today onwards just to let you know who is in charge here *crunch soda can*
And then she started to walk! Ah that is exciting and much anticipated. She has cruised along furniture for yonks. And now that she walks, she challenges herself to climbing up high chairs and stuff. =.= Just a matter of time before i hear, "Geronimoooo!!"
She loves to boogie. And it's never JUST a single step routine. She shakes, moves side to side, lifts her leg, bends her knees, and holds the pole. *smack that..get on the floor...smack that..* heheheeee.
Her hair is of course longer albeit not much increase in volumne. All hairbands are banned. She yanks them away so fast that i havent had her signature gargantuan loud flowery spring is growing on her head pictures taken for a long time. She accepts little clips but only for 5 seconds, or less.Too bad cos i really like her fringe swept and kept at the side. It makes her pumpkin face very guchi-ly girlie cute. And butonny nose rounder.
Gooly was more demonstrative at 1. He could show us the nose, tongue and other stuff that could have enlisted him in the Mensa..or was it the Menza? Anyways...Lolly is the least interested in "teaching" you about body parts cos she knows that you already know, I assume. But she demonstrates her understanding of how the world is run pretty early. For example, need food? Find ahma.
Sometimes she does really endearing stuff like hugging you from behind, at your elephantine leg, or simply chilling out on your lap while humming a melancholy tune. Moments like these make me think, "What took us so long to have you?"
Yes, it was long, but not too late. :)
Happy one-o, my sweet lolly.

Christmas 2011
Previously when my brother was still around, we'd celebrate Christmas at his place - a round of makan to be followed by the gift exchange routine for the kids. Nothing fancy, they always got those cheap toys which they got bored after 5 minutes or so. And very often, we'd bring out a cake for gooly as his birthday is just days after Christmas.
So, if you asked me, Christmas has been quite routine for quite a number of years.
This year, we celebrated Christmas in Bangkok. On the very first day we arrived, decorations at the malls has already put us in the festive mood. We took loads of pictures like what tourists normally do.
The first gifts that we received were by papah's accountant. She gave me a shopping bag (knowing how much I love bags! Papah must have been telling them stories! *frown*), a pretty dress for lolly, and a bouncy lion for gooly. Now, i must say that i am always anxious when someone gives gooly pressies by surprise. You know, what if he gives a bah! when he doesn't like it? And when i saw the stuff toy, i was thinking that he has outgrown cuddly cutey toys, and got really apprehensive about his reaction. But thank goodness, he gave a big genuine smile and started laughing while bouncing the lion away. He said thank you and gave the lady a hug. She is obviously smitten by his actions.
I know the lion wasnt really his "thing" (he wants soldiers and army stuff now) but he was really being nice and polite and most importantly, thankful for the present he received.
And then he told us that he really wanted a set of those tiny soldiers with tanks and missiles and other cool stuff. He has been eyeing it at the 7-11 nearby our place. We bluffed and said we are not getting him any. He didnt whine or complained much. And then we got it for him, secretly. For 129 baht. Lol. He woke up feeling on top of the world when he saw it the next day. And started to believe in santa, cos we just wanted to magicked the whole thing. And for him to truly believe that he has been a wonderful child. We tell him that all the time. I guess when santa says it, its even more special. :)
And then today was papah's company dinner - a food and karaoke affair. Quite an experience for us to be surrounded by happy jolly locals belting out isaan songs. Lots of clapping and dancing. Wanted to shuffle but didnt think it was appropriate. Again, we received presents. This time, we got a set of tshirts for the four of us, with the kingdom's animal icon - the elephant sewn on them. I was really touched, and to show my appreciation, quickly changed lolly into it, and asked gooly to do the same. I am so glad he obliged. He was strutting proudly in it- so happy to be wearing an identical shirt as his baby.
We also had the gift exchanging program which was a bit complicating, imho. There were electrical aplliances, ang pows, hampers and a huge panda (as tall as gooly). Before that, Gooly was really serious about choosing the right gift for the program. He really wanted it to be special, hoping that the someone who gets his gift will be extremely happy. I thought that was awfully sweet because its so darn hard to buy a present when you dont know who is it for.. So i was really getting bored and just wanted to get it over and done with. Like, here, buy this tissue box and go! But nooooo.... He gave his heart and soul into it. And chose a watch instead for that lucky person. :)
And he got a set of comforter in return. In pink! Dissappointed of course. But graciously decided to give it to his beloved sister or someone more needy.
And so it has been a simple affair - one that tells the meaning of christmas in its own way.
One that shows how easy it is to make my son happy.(note: his birthday is just days away. I havent planned anything, bought anything..in fact thought of anything related to it. And he hasnt either because, he will be happy no matter what we do on that day. I know he will be thankful with whatever gifts, parties, cakes. Or without, i hope)
One that highlights his big, gracious and thankful heart.
One that i wish to remember.

The holiday thus far..
...has been nothing but fun fun fun!
First off, lolly was exceptionally good during the flight! *doing the indian jiggy jive* Yes!!
The weather has been realllllly fantastic! Yesterday was down to 19 degrees in the morning. The kids wore hoodies, me in long sleeve, papah being macho, just in his normal tee - we took a walk to our neighbourhood mootun stall. Normally back home, we would have sweated a bucket, having pores like Spongebob, but here...nope, not even a drop of perspire!
Every morning, the kids and i idle the hours away. Sorry papah has to go work. We take a stroll downstairs, do a bit of cartwheels, laugh a lot. Lolly takes a nap while gooly watches telly or read. It's such a joy watching him having fun that learning the timestable is right at the bottom of the totem at the moment.
And then we decide what to eat. Every meal has been either orgasmic, satisfactory or awesome. Nothing less.
We met up with Ada and family the very next day we arrived. My sweet girl was a bit shy, but gooly said to give her time to warm up. True enough, the following day, the two of them got on like they were never separated. Sweet.
Lolly, meanwhile, was slightly cranky on the first two days, probably due to her emerging teeth and also lack of sleep. But now, she is getting really comfortable with the new schedule. Many people adore her, saying she's naalak (cute) despite not being sure about her gender. Well, as we all know, the thais never mind much about you being a man, woman, neither, either...Yes, lolly is cute but people dont tell us that back home. Cos they always think their kids are the cutest (hah! Admit it!) Thais are generous with compliments. They are also more affectionate. Every where we go, people are smiling, touching, saying hello to my baby.
Whats next? The beach, farm and shopping!
Dont miss us too much! Try -lah, at least, ok?

Diary of an intoxicated mom
On that day, I got one power jab on my spine, and my mind went, "Holy ow ow ow ow ow~~~~This is no fun.. I dun wanna ..I dun wanna.. I dun wanna.." and I started to retch my guts out. Uweek...uweek...uweek..... They had to use a bowl to hold my vomit of nothingness (actually I don't know what came out) cos I had fasted for a few good hours.
Before that, the nurses kept asking if I was wearing dentures. I was getting offended like they were insinuating my boobs were fake too. I dunno how I made the connection. And they cross-checked my identity a few times. "Are you Miss Jenniper Lopes?" I so wanted to say NO just to create havoc.
I was wheeled into the OT and all was swell again. I remember looking at those big alien spacecrafts lights above, and thought, "Oooh, preety..." and sang a tune of (in my mind-lah) "Close encounter of the Third Kind". I nodded at Dr. Doolittle, and his assistant, Dr. Grey - all looking clean and sterile with their scrubs and masks. (Sort jor!)
And then the jab and holy ow moment. And the not so graceful vomit episode.
In between, I was hoping that the doc could remove some fats too but that, much to my chagrin, didn't happen.
..and then she came along
..sang beautifully in her loud soprano cries.
..Looking all pink and gorgeous.
Little frowns were sighted at first - annoyed to be shifted from the cozy pouch of a mother's womb to a cold, unfamiliar place.. and then slowly, she turned those frowns upside down.. to perfect little smiles, which got all of us mesmerised.
There..My little girl. Born at 18.10hrs, weighing 2.98 kg. Babies do come in bundles, eh? A bundle of joy, she is. :)
P/s: Ohh.. And the moment she was..erm.."dug out", the doc brought her close to me and asked, "Boy or girl?". Same thing happened during Gooly's birth. This time, due to my bat eye-sight (pun intended) and also a non-batang-so-less-obvious sight before me, I wasn't sure.. I went, "Huh huh huh.. geez.. I dunno!" And the nurse said, "OK, will let you see again once we clean baby up." I was like, "Man... Don't tell me it's a boy. I have bought pink booties!" And the heart went duk-duk-duk like it was 2012. The second time they asked, I still was unsure..and went "Uhm..err.. why don't you tell me?"
Geesh! The hospital's policy is so weird and full of suspence! I thought they should just go, "Congrats, it's a boy! (or a girl!)" Makes things less...uhm.. err.. I dunno. Just stitch me up-lah, you quack!..and there better be two pretty bows at the ends of the looooong wound...

Momma would have wanted it that way..
When it comes to organising parties, especially kiddos' parties.. I admit, I SUCK!
I seriously don't know what to do with them. For Gooly's party, I was thinking of throwing them a few balls, and let them run amok, naked - at the garden. No fancy wamby magicians, clowns or ballonists.
I bought a packet of balloons and hung them on the pillar, looking pathetic and miserable that it it wasn't January, people would think it was a Halloween party.
When if comes to food.. I was quite a champion..at ORDERING them...Oooh.. I had a list of food that I wanted - cendol, nasi lemak pyramid, curry chicken KAYU...But alas, ahbu banned them all.
Because, according to her..they are too expensive.. they won't taste nice..and "I can cook them too wut.."
So for weeks, I had massive arguments with her. But then, I realised, she only wanted to cook because she wanted us to spend less money..and cos, really, she loves us all.
Bless my ahbu!
On that day, we invited few close pals. Friends who have known us for years, realised that there was this stranger.
"Who is that?" they asked.
Mind you, not because he was handsome. *Chuckle*
He was in fact, making my guests feeling uncomfortable. He was poorly dressed, and looked like he hasn't had a shower for days. He stared at people. And he ate a lot. *grins*
He is Mrs. Lee's son.
My mom invited them over to makan, and highlighted to Mrs. Lee to bring along his son. She thought he shouldn't be treated differently, just because he is different.
Now, isn't that something? With this episode, I know I will strive to be like her, to be a good person - kind and sweet. And when she is gone, I will continue having this trait of hers, doing what is right and proclaiming - "My momma would have wanted it that way.."
Thank you, Ahbu for teaching me still at 35.

My 40 year old son
I would say Gooly has the maturity of a 40 year old. And I am only 25+++++++!
He doesn't believe in tooth fairies. When his tiny teeth fell (3 to be exact), I was coaxing him so hard to put them under his pillow. "Nah.. I dont really want to. I just want to show Papah. That's all..spare me the crap about fairies with wings with a fetish on smelly milk teeth ."
For his Halloween party, he didn't want a spidey or superman suit because..durh..it's not like they can make him fly or shoot webs. I swear I could see him rolling his eyes.
Sometimes even after his cousin Harry Potter hit him, he talks about him fondly. I couldn't help but ask, "Why are you still so nice to him?"
"It's ok.. I don't mind," came the reply.
Many times, I sit on the couch, and he asks, "Want a pillow for you back?'
This morning, he woke and wanted my supersmelly comfy blankie. He didn't just take it. He took another one to replace mine and whispered, "Go back to sleep mom..It's still early."
When I was sick, he came to check my temperature by touching my forehead, and rushed to simmer chinese medicine herbs in a claypot on a campfire. (LOL...LOL...LOL!)
When I got better, he said, "Mom, I'm glad you had a good rest and are feeling better now."
In the rain, he cautioned his nai nai, "Xiao xin, nai nai... Don't fall down ah...."
And..he is turning shix on Saturday. Hawaiian Six -o, can you hula-hula believe it?
I hope he continues to love me and others so tenderly. Being 41 shouldn't be any different from being 40, eh?

No title
I have this buddy friend of 21 years. We grew up hanging out at each other's home. I know her grandmom and dad, mom, dad, sis, bro, aunts, uncles, cousins - the ENTIRE family!
When we were little (not that little but you get the drift), her grandma used to cook yummy food. But now she can't recognise or remember me anymore.
...her bro and sis used to call me "che-che". Now we slap each other's butt and say hello.
... I knew when her grandpa passed away. I was there when her dad passed away.
We have come a long way.
Anyways..
She got married and moved to a new house and she throws Christmas parties - every year except for one particular year in which we received an sms telling us the cancellation because her dad has passed away.
That was a devastating Christmas for all of us.
Fast forward to today.. it was the time of the year to go to her house for a makan session again.
I must say I am lucky to have known her family.
Her uncle walks in the room, and comes over and shakes my hand, and asks, "How are you?" genuinely.
Her auntie wipes Gooly's sweat away, takes every opportunity to pamper him with toffees and chocolates.
Her mom treats and praises Gooly like he is one of her grand sons.
Her brother cracks jokes at the dinner table making me feel merry.
Her sister talks to Gooly like he is the most interesting person she has ever met.
Her dad....
Oh..her dad... I remember the last Christmas, he held his handphone and recorded Gooly's antics. He smiled so much replaying those videos. His kindness and warmth I have witnessed for many years.
Basically everyone is extroardinary nice in her family. If she had a dog, I'm pretty sure it won't bite.
These people just have the ability to make others feel loved and acceptable...or just GOOD.. without even knowing or intentionally doing it.
It's in them. They are earth angels. Lol. Though they will never admit it. They will probably puke over this statement.
But really.. They are such gems.
Christmas Eve at her place is always a joy. I would like to spend it with her family for the many coming years.
And...I learned and yearn to render the same warmth and friendliness to my children's friends too.
Merry christmas, y'all..

Pre-Christmas 2010
A couple of weeks back, I brought Gooly to a toystore at a remote place which mainly sells 'play 1,2 days, and then put 1,2 corner' toys. The idea, as of every year, was for him to pick and choose his christmas pressie.
If one day, my dream of conquering the WORLD comes true, I would bring him to Toys R Us. Meanwhile, Kedai Mainan Man Chong will have to do.
It was easy for him to choose few years back. Anything with lights and sounds delighted him. This year, it took a bit longer. He was making his rounds up and down the aisles, hoping to find a 'miracle' amidst dusty boxes with big clear words of MADE IN CHINA under the mis-spelled word of Untaman.
I was getting ready to leave to bring him to the next destination - the bookstore.. (Oh, somebody give me THE MOST BORING MOM award already!)
..but something at the corner got his attention. He picked it up gingerly and with wide eyed expression, he exclaimed, "Mom! This is what I have always wanted!"
The first thing I did was to zoom into the price tag. Ouch! A bit pricier than I originally allocated. But what the heck...It's what he has always wanted!!
We bought it, wrapped it up, and he patiently waited till yesterday.
After dinner, he ripped the wrapper (which I didn't buy, but used Toys R Us catalogue instead as a sign of protest against Bourgeoisie gifts :P and of course, for enviroMENTAL sake). It was evident that it was what he wanted in his 5 years 11 months 23 days of life. He put it on his wrist, turn on the power sound, and escaped into a world of fantasy where he triumphed over morphed-raksasa for a few good hours.
When he went to sleep later that night, I pried his powerful destructive weapon off his hand. He loved it that much that I seriously was giddy with happiness that he found what he always wanted!

One day, son.. Mom will bring you to Toys R Us..you can choose whatever you want.
One day.. when Mom overtakes the Walmart empire..
(Aiyah..he not so cham lah.. My mil and sil really bring him to Toys R Us to choose whatever he wants a few times a year that I find it quite pointless and meaningless for me to further indulge him with expensive toys. Not to say that our toys collection make it seems like we are living an annex to Toys R Us...but I do think he has enough. )

6
3 more weeks...
Turning 6..
Lost 3 teeth
But gained only 2..
Becoming a kor-kor
Going to a new school
So fast? Yaumougauchor?
I kid you not, it's not April's Fool.
But everyone we know say you are a mini adult
Not that I am complaining or having a pout
Instead I learned what love is all about
When you told me, "It's ok if papah has to work, I will accompany you..
And next time Lolly will too."
I like it I admit
When you close the door gently
Knowing the creaking sounds it emits
Irk me greatly
I love it, the reason is simple
When you tell people
"Please wait..My mom is having a baby..
She now moves slowly."
I am touched
When you barfed
and apologised, "I'm sorry, mom and for cleaning me up, thank you
Yeap..the smell did linger..ewww..
My heart melts, knees all wobbly
When you send kisses to Lolly
Spreading warmth from my belly
In love with you again, like totally.
On becoming a big bro
You are all ready to go
"My job is to tickle Lolly's armpits
Make her laugh, mouth frothing with spits."
I am sheepish when you declare
That I am the best mom in the world
But the way you love and care
Makes you the best son in my world.
Turning 6 is a big deal
It's not just about a good meal
It's about character and heart
How to be human, the art.
But Gooly,
I am already proud of you
Every day.
I love everything about you
Your heart, your soul
That's all I want to say.
Let's put on the parachutes
Jump into two thousand eleven
We'll hold hands and shout GERONIMO
Pray for the best and more more more....

At the airport that day..
It was the earliest flight out of Bkk city. We woke at 4.30am..and reached an hour later only to realise that there were loads of poor folks like us who buy cheap tickets and depart at ungodly hours!
The anaconda queue snailed all the way to the check in counter and again, at the immigration.
Gooly and I waited for what seemed eternity, behind a couple who looked like Japanese but spoke only in Thai. They had business class tickets in hands, heading to Narita, the wife holding a Hermes bag (that proves how much time I had, checking out such 'mundane' details.)
And then my mind drifted to my own shopping spree later on. I was hoping to check out the Longchamp sale..and of course some FCUK shower gel which I always buy for some smelly bugger.
And then it happened... A pang of pain from the stomach shooting straight to the esophagus and went all the way up to head....making the room spin and spin. Imagine the dark cloud of evilness/pain sprouting from one area to another. Imagine The Return of the Mummy when the mummy breathed dark weevils or whatnots from its mouth. That's what was happpening inside me.
I knew I was gonna collapesd but I had my inner voice to hold the fort, not to faint. All voices around me became sort of echoed. I heard Gooly asking, "Mom, are you ok?" but I couldnt answer. And he asked again, "Are you feeling dizzy?"
The dizzy spell was over as sudden as it began. I recomposed myself and asked Gooly what happened. He said my head was spinning round and round , and my eyes were half-closed. He was already holding on to my hand bag. And he looked worried. Poor boy.
I guess that happens to preggie moms... And I am kinda afraid of going out on my own or just with Gooly now. Just in case the bouts of dizziness happen again.
And so we headed to gate F5 straight away without stopping at Boots Pharmacy or the duty free shops.
And that concludes the report on "Why I didn't buy you FCUK this time".

Xiao Loong
Brought the boys out to buy tanglung just now.
I was pretty excited as well. When I was a wee lil kid with ponytails, I always chose a bunny wabbit lantern.
And so there were rows and rows of colourful lanterns hanging from atop. We craned our necks to choose - ultraman, power ranger, doraemon, bumble bee...and others.
So which one did Gooly choose? Give you a hint: his cuz chose Bumble Bee the non-insect but robotic car.

Taddaa.....

I tell you.. Gooly is a traditional person. He chose the oldest design- one that dated probably way back when they first made lanterns.
I would have gone ballistic if he had fancied those battery operated ones. So there..a dragon with a wobbly head named Xiao Loong. I'm secretly pleased with his choice because of its rustic charm.

I'm gonna list the things I got this year, though some are really not for my birthday, but I don't care and not shy :
a. siao cellphone
b. cupcakes and cakes
c. bag
d. necklaces
e. drawing of me playing badminton
f. face mask*
g. card
h. BMX
i. dinner and lunch and snacks
j. wishes via FB, Sms, phone calls, emails
k. parking space near entrance where-ever I go for the whole week (can you freaking believe it?)
l. funny song name dedication (Aku Bulatkan Harijadimu dekat Kalenderku)

5
You woke this morning and exclaimed, "It's MY birthday!" I managed a yawn and a greeting simultaneously - Haiippih Buurhfday...! with my eyes half closed.
You instructed that I said it with much more zest while you plopped back down to bed, pretending to be still asleep. The idea was to 'surprise' you with a loud over-the-top HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
I obliged of course.
And your "is it really my birthday finally?' look was really convincing.
You thought you were six because you blew off 5 candles at an early celebration with Ada.
I said No. You are 5.
But you said you were five last year.
I said No. You were turning 5 last year.
Poor lad. You were so confused.
And so you are 5 relunctantly. Today.
5 years. 1,2,3,4,5. That's five fingers on one hand. The same five fingers I have held for five years.
As I held your hand, guiding you, I knew the other five fingers on the other hand are eager to 'flee', even wanting to escape, perhaps. They are always pointing out something, poking at someone or picking up an object. But you were still a little unsure thus you hung on to me in the past years.
I guess being 5 means you will be more confident. You will explore more. It's ok. Don't be afraid.
Rest assured, whenever you look back, I am there. Sometimes with a smile, sometimes with a frown. (Give me a minute, and I will turn the latter upside down.)
Grow grow grow...
Every hurdle
Every challenge
We will charge forward
Go go go.
Happy Birthday, Gooly!

First day of class
Your pencil case is here...
And you tumbler here...
Pencil and eraser this compartment ok?
If you need to go toilet, tell the teacher. Know how to unzip your pants or not?
Yada yada yada... and kancheong-ness from me.
Meanwhile, he was very 'selamba'. Nodded his head a few times - don't know he was listening or not.
It was his first mandarin class. A trial, actually. He picked his own pair of socks. A striking blue pair which neither quite match his shoes nor pants nor shirts nor bag. But because he said, " I am a big boy now, let me decide," I relented.
He crossed over his 'yauyingdoesei' skull bag and announced, "I'm ready."
There goes my little boy! Off to school... sniff sniff! (It's not a school, Mahmee.. it's only a two hour class!*roll eyes*)..But but but...that's my baby... crossing the bridge to the big bad world outside! Be brrrrave, my child!
*hold white handkerchief and wave wave* Bubye! Gooly!...Remember to drink water! Buhbye! (actually looking forward to two hours FREE TIME of.. massages? mahjung? coffee? whatever laa!)
Alas, he failed his trial class. Hahahaha! Actually the teacher only speaks Thai and Mandarin, and he, neither.. So he can't join the class. What a pity!(esp. for me!)
But on that morning, I thought to myself..
Oh my.. when he really goes to school, I would be so proud and lonely. What a weird combo.
